Imagine enjoying your morning coffee in a mug covered with your favorite smiling faces. You can have digital photos printed on coffee mugs from a wide selection of retailers, or you can put them there yourself with a little know-how. It is not necessary to resize your digital photos when ordering mugs from online retailers; they arrange and size the photos as needed. Homemade photo mugs are not dishwasher safe, but you can use them as inexpensive ways to decorate a shelf in your breakfast room or kitchen.

    Homemade Photo Mugs

Select a coffee mug and the photos you wish to put on the mug.

Cut around the selected images in the photos to make a photo collage. Trim a single digital photo to fit on the outside of the mug.

Sand the part of the coffee mug on which you plan to place the digital photo lightly with light grade sandpaper. The sandpaper will scuff the finish on the ceramic or metal coffee mug, and glue will adhere better.

Cover your work surface with wax paper. Place the mug on the paper.

Spread a light coating of decoupage glue onto the coffee mug where you plan to place the first digital photo. Press the photo into the glue. Work from the center outward to spread the glue over the photo using a paint sponge. Pop the air bubbles with a toothpick.

Continue to layer the glue and the digital photos onto the coffee mug to create your desired design. Allow the glue to dry completely.

Smooth a layer of decoupage glue over all of the digital photos on the coffee mug. Allow the glue to dry. Repeat this step at least three times.

    Online Ordering

Create an account at any online photo processor that offer photo gifts. Many large drugstore chains offer photo gifts.

Log into your account, and follow the instructions to create an album. Follow the instructions to select and upload digital photos from your computer to the album.

Select the size and background color of the coffee mug for your digital photos.

Follow instructions to select the digital photo or photos you wish to put on the coffee mug. More than one photo is most often arranged in a photo collage. Depending on the company, it is possible to have at least 14 photos on one coffee mug, if you like.

Place the order, and pay for the digital photo mug.
